Avastin® is used along with chemotherapy medicines to treat several different types of cancer. By binding to and inhibiting a protein that encourages the growth of new blood vessels, the cancer is essentially "starved" of its blood supply. Avastin, which is only available by prescription, is given by injection at your healthcare provider's office. Side effects include stomach pain, fatigue, and nausea.
