When cancer cells develop inside the large intestine (the
colon), a person has colon cancer. Symptoms are not usually apparent in the early stages and unfortunately do not often develop until later.
Once a person has been diagnosed with colon cancer, information needs to be gathered on its stage. The stages are based on whether the tumor has invaded nearby tissues, whether the cancer has spread, and, if so, to what parts of the body.
These stages include:
- Stage 0
- Stage I
- Stage II
- Stage III
- Stage IV
- Recurrent colon cancer.
