Colon cancer is a disease characterized by the development of cancerous cells in the first six feet of the large intestine. It may cause symptoms such as frequent gas pains or cramps, a change in bowel habits, and diarrhea, and unexplained weight loss. People with a history of other cancers, who are over the age of 50, or who have a history of ulcerative colitis are at an increased risk for developing colon cancer.
