Erbitux
® (
cetuximab) is a drug used in the treatment of
squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck, as well as advanced
colorectal cancer (
cancer of the colon and rectum) that expresses a protein called epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). It can be used alone or in combination with other treatments as part of a person's chemotherapy regimen.
A healthcare provider will administer Erbitux by injection once a week. Prior to beginning treatment with this medication, review the safety information for Erbitux with your healthcare provider. For example, it's important to limit your time in the sun and wear protective clothing and sunscreen during treatment. In addition, report any rashes, swelling, or anything else that "just does not seem right" to your healthcare provider.
