Stage 4 Colon Cancer

Special Liver Treatment
Special treatments for stage 4 colon cancer that has spread to the liver may include:
 
  • Radiofrequency ablation (a technique that uses a special probe with tiny electrodes that kill cancer cells)
  • Cryosurgery (using an instrument to freeze and destroy abnormal tissues).
     

Prognosis With Stage 4 Colon Cancer

New regimens of chemotherapy have improved the response rate, time-to-tumor progression, and median survival of people with stage 4 colon cancer, with tolerable side effects. The median survival of these people has improved from approximately 12 months in the mid-1990s to more than 20 months in 2003.
