The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Erbitux® (cetuximab) for the treatment of squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck, as well as certain types of advanced cancer affecting the colon or rectum. At times, drugs are used for conditions they are not approved to treat. This is called an off-label use. Using Erbitux for non-small cell lung cancer is an example of this.
