Colon Cancer Home > Can Camptosar Be Given Simultaneously With Leucovorin?
Camptosar® (irinotecan) is approved to treat colon or rectal cancer that is metastatic (has spread to other areas of the body). It is used as a first treatment, in combination with leucovorin and 5-fluorouracil (Adrucil®, Carac®, Efudex®, Fluoroplex®, also known as 5-FU). But can Camptosar be given simultaneously with leucovorin?
When receiving Camptosar as part of a combination treatment regimen, the leucovorin is usually given immediately after the Camptosar infusion (on the same day, but not at the same time). When used in combination treatment, Camptosar is usually given in one of the following ways:
- Once a week for four doses, followed by a three-week break
- Once every other week for three doses, followed by a two-week break.
