Colon Cancer Home > Erbitux Uses

Can Children Use It?

Erbitux is not approved for use in children. At this time, it is unknown if the medicine is safe or effective in children, as it has not been adequately studied in this group. Talk with your child's healthcare provider about the particular benefits and risks of using Erbitux in children.

Can Older Adults Use It?

Older adults can use this medication. In clinical trials involving people with colorectal cancer, older adults appeared to respond to and tolerate Erbitux no differently than younger age groups. However, Erbitux has not been adequately studied in older adults with head and neck cancer. In general, older adults may be more sensitive to the side effects of this medication.

Off-Label Erbitux Uses

On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend Erbitux for something other than the uses discussed in this article. This is called an "off-label" use. Erbitux may be used off-label to treat non-small cell lung cancer. It has been studied for the treatment of ovarian cancer and pancreatic cancer, but at this time the drug appears to be ineffective for these uses.
