Tonalin CLA and Fat Loss

A few small studies have suggested that supplements such as Tonalin CLA may be effective for reducing body fat. These studies did not show that CLA caused weight loss, but it did cause a decrease in body fat and, presumably, an increase in muscle mass. There is some evidence that CLA may help suppress the appetite, as most types of fat tend to do, although it is not clear if this results in an overall reduction in calorie intake. More studies are necessary to confirm that CLA is both safe and effective for this purpose.

More importantly, one isomer of CLA may increase the risk of diabetes in people with abdominal obesity (fat around the midsection). Therefore, this product may not be the best choice for people with this body type. Because Tonalin CLA contains this particular isomer in combination with another one, it is not clear if the supplement also causes such problems.

Final Thoughts on the Effectiveness of Tonalin CLA

Preliminary studies suggest that supplements such as Tonalin CLA may be effective for reducing body fat. Early evidence also suggests that diets high in CLA might be useful for preventing some types of cancer, although it is not clear if supplementation provides the same benefits. Much more research is necessary to confirm these early studies and to fully examine the risks of Tonalin CLA use, especially long-term use of the supplements.
