Stage III Rectal Cancer
In stage III rectal cancer, the cancer has spread to nearby lymph nodes, but it has not spread to other parts of the body. Stage III rectal cancer is sometimes called Dukes' C rectal cancer.
 
Stage IV Rectal Cancer
In stage IV, rectal cancer has spread to other parts of the body, such as the liver, lungs, or ovaries. Stage IV rectal cancer is also known as Dukes' D rectal cancer.
 
Recurrent Rectal Cancer
Recurrent rectal cancer is cancer that has recurred (come back) after it has been treated. The cancer may come back in the rectum or in other parts of the body, such as the colon, pelvis, liver, or lungs.
